Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have sent invitations to apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw.
The department issued 1,613 ITAs in a draw that specifically focused on Express Entry candidates with a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination.
To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 743.
The most recent draw prior to today took place on September 19, inviting 4,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) only. Candidates needed a minimum CRS score of 509 to qualify, which is a slight increase from the previous CEC draw on August 27, where the score was 507.
CEC draws have become more frequent this summer, with IRCC issuing a total of 21,800 ITAs to CEC candidates since July. This aligns with IRCC’s goal to increase the number of “domestic” draws and decrease the number of temporary residents in Canada, thereby helping the department meet its permanent resident targets for the year.
Today’s draw is the first of the month. Last year, IRCC conducted four draws in October, inviting a total of 9,173 candidates.

What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an application management system introduced in 2015 to assist IRCC in selecting economic immigration candidates who can address urgent labor force shortages.
Candidates applying through any of the three programs managed by Express Entry—the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)—are assessed using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
The CRS evaluates candidates based on various human capital factors, including work experience, age, language proficiency, education, and occupation. Additional points can be awarded for factors such as immigrating with a spouse or partner, having a sibling in Canada, or possessing work experience or education within Canada.
Each factor contributes points to a candidate’s overall score, with higher scores increasing the likelihood of receiving an ITA in future Express Entry draws, depending on the draw type.
Category-Based Selection
CRS scores are typically lower on average in category-based selection draws. Introduced in May 2023, these draws are designed to help IRCC select candidates who can address urgent workforce or demographic gaps. There are six categories for these draws:
- Healthcare
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades
- Transport
- Agriculture and Agri-food
- French language proficiency
IRCC selected these categories following extensive consultations with various stakeholders and an analysis of labor market conditions. The aim also includes meeting the target of admitting 6% of all newcomers into French-speaking minority communities outside Quebec.
Although the CRS cut-off scores for these draws are often lower than those in program-specific or general draws, candidates must still be in the Express Entry pool, and having a high CRS score remains advantageous.
